The situation

Over time, the firm’s ability to work efficiently with internal and external clients had declined to the point where the business needs of the organisation were no longer being met. In professional services, that erosion translates directly into lost market advantage: slower responses, harder collaboration, and clients who notice the friction before you do.

Modern professional services delivery runs on collaboration, and collaboration runs on communications infrastructure. The firm knew where it wanted to go: Unified Communications tools that would let teams and clients work together properly. What it lacked was the foundation for that decision. There was no clear picture of the current communications cost base, no independent read on what the telecommunications market could actually offer, and no confidence that the existing network could carry the change.

Why independent advice mattered

Every obvious place to ask for help had something to sell. Carriers sell capacity. Integrators sell projects. Vendors sell licences. Each would have answered the firm’s questions with a proposal, and each proposal would have been shaped by what its author wanted to supply.

What the firm needed first was an honest map: what it was paying today, what the market genuinely offers, and what its network needed to become. That is the gap an independent IT strategy engagement exists to fill, and it is why Beyond Technology takes no vendor commissions and sells no implementation services. Our only deliverable is advice the client can defend.

What we did

The engagement moved through four stages, each building the evidence base for the next.

01

Detailed assessment of the cost base

We built a contract-by-contract picture of what the firm was actually paying for communications and connectivity, so every later recommendation could be measured against real spend rather than estimates.

02

Market analysis of telecommunications providers

We benchmarked current provider capability and commercial terms against the firm’s requirements, independent of any carrier relationship. The firm saw the market as it is, not as a sales team presents it.

03

High-level network architecture

We designed a target-state architecture capable of carrying Unified Communications reliably, with a practical migration path from the existing estate rather than a rip-and-replace fantasy.

04

Strategy and business case

We brought the evidence together into a new strategic plan and a business case the executive could approve: a phased network upgrade, sequenced so each stage builds confidence for the next.

“It’s the first time that I clearly understand how we engage our IT to change the status quo.”

CEO · Large Professional Services Firm

The outcome

  • A new strategic plan and a business case the board could act on
  • A phased network upgrade path, replacing big-bang risk with staged, reversible decisions
  • The infrastructure foundation for deploying Unified Communications tools across the firm

The most important change was in the quality of the decision. Leadership moved from knowing that collaboration was failing to holding a costed, sequenced and defensible plan for fixing it, grounded in their real cost base and the real market, with no vendor’s thumb on the scale.

Facing a similar decision?

If your organisation knows where it wants to go but lacks an independent picture of cost, market and architecture, that is exactly where our engagements begin.

Is this your situation?

The signals that led this organisation to seek independent advice

If any of these feel familiar, the conversation is worth having before the next decision locks you in.

Collaboration is dragging

Working with internal teams and external clients takes more effort than it used to, and the tools the business wants are blocked by infrastructure nobody trusts.

Nobody has tested your telecom spend against the market

Contracts renew on legacy terms because no one has built an independent, current picture of what providers actually offer and charge.

The board wants a business case, not a vendor pitch

Every proposal on the table was written by someone with something to sell, and the executive knows it.
