IT Audit Sydney

IT Audit · Sydney

IT audits for Sydney organisations, independent of every provider you use

In Sydney the questions about technology often come from outside: a regulator, a client’s due diligence, an insurer. An independent IT audit gives your board an evidenced answer, from advisers with no product or service to sell you afterwards.

  • Cost, providers, risk and governance, scoped to the questions your board is asking
  • An audit of your IT provider by a party with no stake in the answer
  • Findings ranked by risk and effort, in plain language

Independent and vendor neutral. The advice is the product; nothing else is for sale.

Auditing IT in Sydney

The pressure to audit usually starts outside the organisation

Sydney holds the country’s largest concentration of financial services, insurance and professional services firms, and their technology is examined by outsiders more than anywhere else. APRA-regulated entities answer to CPS 234 on information security and CPS 230 on operational risk, which puts accountability for critical service providers with the board. The firms that serve them inherit the same questions through client due diligence.

The common gap is not a missing control. It is that the evidence for the controls comes from the provider that runs them. When a client questionnaire or an insurer asks how the organisation knows its backups work, its access is managed or its outsourced provider is meeting its obligations, the real answer is often “because the provider told us”.

An independent IT audit replaces that answer with evidence. It looks at the IT function and the providers behind it, tests the claims that matter, and reports to the executive in terms a board can rely on. It is a management review rather than a statutory audit, and organisations often use it to get ready for the formal assurance work that follows.

Who commissions IT audits here

Financial services and insurance firms preparing for regulator or internal audit scrutiny. Professional services firms answering client security and continuity questionnaires. National organisations with a Sydney head office and operations in other states.

How we work with Sydney organisations

Beyond Technology’s head office is in Sydney, at Crows Nest on the lower north shore. Sydney audits mix remote work with on-site time for the sessions where being in the room matters: interviews, site walk-throughs and the board presentation. Read the full scope and method on our IT audit service page, or start with our IT audit guides and checklists.

Why organisations commission us

You cannot manage what nobody will tell you straight

In Sydney the question usually arrives from outside: a regulator, a client’s due diligence, or an insurer asking for evidence. Most IT reporting reaches the executive filtered through the people and providers being reported on. An independent audit removes the filter.

You suspect IT spend is high, but cannot prove it

Licensing renewed by habit, hardware past its lifecycle, projects that never delivered the benefits that justified them. The costs are real; the visibility is not.

The audit quantifies cost against value across licensing, lifecycle, projects and providers, so decisions rest on numbers, not impressions.

Your IT assurance comes from the people being assured

Internal teams and managed service providers report on their own performance. That is not independence; that is marking your own homework.

We audit the IT function and the external providers, as a third party with no stake in the answer, including a dedicated External Service Provider Operations Audit.

The board asks about risk and gets jargon

Security posture, recoverability, single points of failure: the questions are simple, the answers rarely are.

Findings arrive as Actionable Advice: plain language, no technical qualification needed, with recommendations sized to your budget and priorities.

Twenty questions across cost, risk, alignment, people and governance. Any question you cannot answer with confidence belongs in your audit scope. Use it internally, or bring it to a consultation.

The IT Audit Scoping Checklist

  • Do you know what your IT actually costs?
  • Who audits your external IT provider?
  • Has data recovery actually been tested?
  • Does the IT plan trace back to business goals?
  • Plus 16 more, across five areas
What the audit covers

What an IT audit looks at

Every audit is scoped to the questions you need answered. Most cover some mix of these four areas.

Cost and contracts

Licensing, hardware lifecycle, cloud consumption and provider contracts, measured against what the organisation actually uses.

Your IT provider

Whether your managed service provider delivers the service levels you pay for, assessed by someone who does not want the contract.

Risk and recoverability

Single points of failure, backups that have been restored rather than assumed, and the security exposure underneath business as usual.

Governance and alignment

Whether technology decisions trace back to business goals, and whether oversight would catch a problem before it became expensive.

The full scope, method and FAQs are on our IT audit service page. For a security-only review, see cyber security audits in Sydney.

Where we would start

Where an audit in Sydney usually starts

First

List the service providers your critical operations depend on, and what each contract actually commits the provider to deliver.

Second

Take the last client questionnaire or insurance renewal and test whether the answers given can be evidenced, control by control.

Third

Work out what an outage of each critical system costs per day, so the findings can be ranked by consequence rather than by technical severity.

From our clients

What executives say after the audit

Reading your report produced without conflict-of-interest, I clearly understand how biased previous technology advice had been

CEO, not-for-profit organisation

After you identified the root cause of our difficulties we have never looked back

CFO, financial services industry

I was astounded to see how reprioritising our IT could deliver such a material improvement in business outcomes

MD, large field services organisation

Why independence matters

An auditor with something to sell is not an auditor

Technology advice is full of conflicts of interest: firms that audit what they hope to fix, and advisors who quietly monetise the products they recommend. Beyond Technology maintains absolute independence from every vendor and technology. What you get in return is Actionable Advice: accurate, accessible findings, fit for purpose for your organisation, that do not require a technical qualification to understand and do not assume a bigger budget than you have.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you have an office in Sydney?

Yes. Our head office is in Crows Nest, on Sydney’s lower north shore, and we have offices in Brisbane and Perth. Sydney audits combine remote work with on-site time for interviews and the board presentation.

Can an IT audit help with CPS 230 or CPS 234?

It can show you where you stand before the formal assurance work: which providers you depend on, what happens when one fails, and whether the controls you describe exist as described. It does not replace your internal audit function or any assurance the standards require.

Is an IT audit the same as a financial audit?

No. It is an independent management review of how technology is run: what it costs, how the providers perform, where the risk sits and whether governance works. It is not a statutory audit and it does not certify you against a standard, although organisations often use it to get ready for one.

Will you try to sell us the fix afterwards?

No. We have no products, no reseller margins and no implementation arm to feed. The findings are the product, and your team or your existing provider can act on them.
