Cyber security audits for Melbourne organisations, independent of every vendor
From Victorian public sector suppliers to manufacturers with a plant on the network, Melbourne organisations carry security obligations their IT was never built for. Our independent audit shows where you stand and what to fix first, and we sell nothing.
- Essential Eight maturity, Microsoft 365, identity, backups and response readiness
- Evidence a board, insurer or client questionnaire will accept
- Recommendations sized to your budget, not to a product list
Independent and vendor neutral. The advice is the product; nothing else is for sale.

Melbourne audits run on a mix of on-site and remote time, agreed in the scope.

Victorian obligations reach further than most suppliers realise
Victorian public sector organisations answer to the Victorian Protective Data Security Standards, and those obligations can extend to the contracted service providers that handle their information. A software supplier, a consultancy or a facilities firm working for a Victorian agency can find the standards written into its contract, with security questions to match.
Melbourne’s manufacturers and distributors face a different exposure. Plant and warehouse systems were built to run, not to be connected, and many now share a network with email and the internet. A security review that stops at the office can miss the system whose failure would halt production.
Education and health providers, a large part of Melbourne’s economy, hold exactly the kind of personal information the Privacy Act’s notifiable data breaches scheme was written for. An independent audit gives each of them an evidenced view of their controls against the Essential Eight, without a vendor deciding what the gap is.
Who commissions cyber security audits here
Suppliers to Victorian government agencies with security obligations in their contracts. Manufacturers and distributors with plant and warehouse systems on the corporate network. Schools, education and health providers holding sensitive personal information.
How we work with Melbourne organisations
Beyond Technology’s head office is in Sydney, with offices in Brisbane and Perth, and we work with Melbourne organisations on a mix of remote and on-site time, including regional Victorian sites. Read the full scope and method on our cyber security audit page.
Most cyber security advice comes from someone selling the fix
In Victoria the obligation often arrives through a contract: a public sector client passing its security standards down the supply chain. The people who tell you about your security risk are usually the people paid to remediate it: your managed service provider, a security vendor, a reseller with a licence to renew. An independent audit removes that filter.
The board asks “are we secure?” and gets a product list
Every answer arrives attached to a quote. Nobody in the room can say whether the spend already made is working, let alone whether the next one is needed.
We assess your posture against a stated benchmark and tell you what the evidence shows, with no product to steer you toward.
Your security assurance comes from the people being assured
The provider that configures your Microsoft 365 tenancy is the one reporting on whether it is configured well. That is marking your own homework.
We audit the controls and the provider as a third party, and we say plainly where the gap is a configuration, a process, or a person.
A regulator, insurer or client is asking questions you cannot answer
Privacy Act obligations, APRA expectations, a client security questionnaire, a cyber insurance renewal. The questions are specific; the internal answers are not.
The audit gives you a defensible, evidenced position you can put in front of whoever is asking, and a prioritised plan for what to close first.
Not ready to talk? Start with the scoping checklist
Our IT audit scoping checklist covers twenty questions across cost, risk, alignment, people and governance. Security is one of the five areas, and any question you cannot answer with confidence belongs in your audit scope. Use it internally, or bring it to a consultation.

The IT Audit Scoping Checklist
- Who audits your external IT provider?
- Has data recovery actually been tested?
- Do staff know what to do when something looks wrong?
- Can you evidence your controls to a regulator or insurer?
- Plus 16 more, across five areas
What a cyber security audit looks at
The scope is agreed before we start. Most audits cover some mix of these four areas.
Essential Eight maturity
An evidenced rating against the ASD Essential Eight, control by control, and what ASD’s planned move to its Essentials series means for you.
Microsoft 365 and identity
Tenancy configuration, multi-factor authentication, privileged access and the accounts nobody switched off.
Backups and response readiness
Whether the backups would restore, whether the response plan has been tested, and who decides what in the first hour.
People, AI and third parties
Staff awareness, staff use of generative AI tools, and the providers that hold your data or your administrator access.
The full scope and method are on our cyber security audit page, and we also run a dedicated Essential Eight audit. For cost, providers and the wider IT function, see IT audits in Melbourne.
Where a cyber security audit in Melbourne usually starts
First
Read your client contracts for security obligations, including any reference to the Victorian standards, so the audit measures what you have actually agreed to.
Second
Find where plant, warehouse and building systems meet the corporate network, and who is responsible for each connection.
Third
Rate your controls against the Essential Eight with evidence, starting with the ones that protect personal information.

An auditor who sells the remediation is not an auditor
Cyber security is the most conflicted corner of technology advice. The firm that finds the gap is usually the firm that quotes to close it, so the gap has a way of being exactly the size of their product. Beyond Technology maintains absolute independence from every vendor and technology. We do not sell, resell or implement anything. What you get is Actionable Advice: accurate, accessible findings that fit your organisation, do not need a technical qualification to understand, and do not assume a bigger budget than you have.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have an office in Melbourne?
No. Beyond Technology’s head office is in Sydney, with offices in Brisbane and Perth, and we work with organisations across Australia. Melbourne audits combine remote work with on-site time for interviews, site visits and the board presentation.
Do the Victorian standards apply to us?
They apply to Victorian public sector organisations and can reach the providers handling their information, usually through the contract. The audit starts by establishing which obligations you have actually taken on, then measures your controls against them.
Is this a penetration test?
No. A penetration test tries to break in through a defined set of systems on a given day. An audit assesses whether your controls, practices and readiness fit the risk you carry. Many organisations need both, and the audit tells you whether a penetration test is the right next spend.
Will you try to sell us the remediation?
No. We have no products, no reseller margins and no implementation arm. The findings are the product, and your team or your existing provider can act on them.
